L'Shanah Tovah!

Next Wednesday, September 4th (1 Tishrei 5774 on the Hebrew calendar), marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year with the celebration of Rosh Hashanah. Ten days later is the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, which brings the "High Holidays" to an end. In addition to the practice of somber reflection and prayer, there are also many food-related traditions associated with the holidays, including a 26-hour fast followed by a sumptuous dinner for Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah has a more specific tradition of eating apples and honey, along with other sweet treats, to bring in the new year on a sweet note.

Maybe take a look at this list of Rosh Hashanah sweet recipes, or a general Jewish cook book from the library? Even if you don't celebrate these special days, I would like to wish everyone "L'Shanah Tovah" (translation: for a good year)!
