Bedtime stories are a time-honored event in most households across the nation. Now, a new program has been introduced to the bedtime ritual – Bedtime Math. Read a story and do a math problem before being tucked in…and SCCLD libraries are here to help with both. Of course, the library has a wonderful and extensive selection of picture books for cozy read-alouds. And you can also learn about a new online math program, Bedtime Math, to promote early numeracy.
Bedtime Math offers free on-line math-focused programs for children 3-9 years of age. By signing up for the free program, families receive a fun math problem each night – by email, Facebook or the Bedtime Math website www.bedtimemath.org. Parents and kids then read and solve the nightly math problems together.
Several SCCLD libraries hosted PJ parties featuring Bedtime Math Activities this summer. Kids made their own dominos, puzzled with tan grams and solved math problems in their head.
