100 books to read

Perhaps you have uncovered this fun resource from National Public Radio on your own this summer on your travels!  While not everyone can read in a moving vehicle (I myself get nauseous after 10 minutes while my son happily finishes The Hobbit), we can all talk great books in the car -- or anywhere really!

NPR's Backseat Book Club encourages just that.

The Backseat Book Club encourages kids to read each month's title selection then send in their questions.  The club is aimed at readers ages 9-14 with books of all sizes and genres. Check out the website to learn about the program.

This week, NPR put out the top reads with this great online resource:

The Ultimate Backseat Bookshelf: 100 Must-Reads For Kids 9-14

The books on this list range from biographies on first ladies to fantasy series to historical fiction award winners. What I really love about this list is its currency!  There are books from every decade including this one.

Of course, any SCCLD Library is a great place to pick up these books.  These are a few of my favorites from the Top 100:

All-of-a-kind Family All-of-a-kind Family

Happy reading!
