The 2012 Olympics are coming to a close this weekend, but what fun it has been to watch these spectacular athletes! While not all of us can win the gold for the USA in beach volleyball like Misty and Kerry or be the fastest man in the world like Usain Bolt, summer is a great time for taking a jog on the trail.
Or how about reading a book featuring running?
Try Warp Speed by Lisa Yee. In this middle school story of friends and fitting in, Marley’s running for cover becomes running for success. This book connects to her other books Millicent Min, Girl Genius, Stanford Wong Flunks Big-time and So Totally Emily Ebers.
And how about the inspiring Olympic story of Oscar Pistorius, the double amputee from South Africa? Check out his website at http://www.oscarpistorius.com/ for amazing pictures and the history of his career.
Pistorius' story is a true and moving one, and it brings to mind Wendelin Van Draanen's teen novel The Running Dream where a tragic accident inspires a community to work together to make dreams come true.
Run on into the Library today to pick up a good book!
