Early Literacy for every child!

To support early literacy sing, talk, read, write and play with your child.  Pre-reading skills start with developing:

1.      Phonological awareness

2.      Vocabulary

3.       Background Knowledge

4.     Print Conventions/Awareness

5.       Letter Knowledge

This week’s early literacy tip is on:

Print conventions/awareness: print has meaning.

Help children learn that English words go left to right and from top to bottom on a page.

Use your hands to follow words or point out certain letters when reading with children.

Cars! Cars! Cars! Cars! Cars! Cars!

Point out other words and numbers in the pictures of books.

Happy Reading!
