Early Literacy Tip of the Week

To support early literacy sing, talk, read, write and play with your child

1.       Phonological awareness

2.     Vocabulary

3.       Background Knowledge

4.      Print Conventions/Awareness

5.       Letter Knowledge

Vocabulary is knowing the meanings of words and learning new meanings

Children need language (or vocabulary) to think about math.  They need to know the words for numbers and shapes (geometry) and quantity.  The more mathematical language they hear as young children, the more their mathematical knowledge can increase in school.

Read some fun number stories:

Double the Ducks Double the Ducks

Zero Zero

Twenty Is Too Many Twenty Is Too Many
