Sing, Talk, Read, Write and Play with your child.
These activities support early literacy.
Developing the following skills help children get ready to learn to read!
1. Phonological awareness
3. Background Knowledge
4. Print Conventions/Awareness
5. Letter Knowledge
Phonological awareness: The ability to hear and play with the smaller sounds in words.
Talking about words that rhyme helps children become more aware of the smaller sounds in words. Read books with simple, rhyming words like The Cat in the Hat together. Play a word game with your child, pick a word and ask them to find a rhyming word. If that is too hard, pick two words and ask children if they rhyme or not?
