Scene from Star Trek Into Darkness

Thanks to the many technical advances in visual effects technology, I am constantly in awe of the incredible images that show up routinely when I watch a movie.  As a long time fan of the art of visual effects, it has been fun to watch its development over the years.

The Oscars have been honoring some form of special effects since the first ceremony held in 1928.  The current Best Visual Effects category was firmly established in 1977 with Star Wars taking the award.
