The Art of Bulgari 1950-1990: La Dolce Vita and Beyond

Even though I don’t have the budget for costly jewels, or a place where I could imagine wearing them, I admit I love to window shop at high-end jewelry stores. If looking at fantastic jewelry  sounds like the perfect thing to chase away the January blues, Cupertino Library has a great program for you this weekend. On Saturday, January 11 at 2 pm,  DeYoung Museum docent Ellen Harden will be at the Cupertino Community Hall to talk about The Art of Bulgari, 1950-1990; La Dolce Vita and Beyond.  The exhibition will continue at the museum until February 17.
After World War II, the Italian jeweler Bulgari developed his own unique style, using influences from the ancient world, the renaissance and the work of 19th century Roman goldsmiths. By the 1970’s, Bulgari was a favorite with celebrities and the jet set, notably including Elizabeth Taylor. Pieces from her collection are included in the exhibition.
Save the date on January 25 for our next De Young Museum program: Vive La France!: The French and Their Painting at 2 pm at the Cupertino Community Hall
