The Story of Beautiful Girl The Story of Beautiful Girl

This month, the Cupertino Library will discuss  their September book selection, The Story of Beautiful Girl by Rachel Simon. On a rainy night in 1968, Homan, a deaf black man and Lynnie, a pregnant white girl with limited speech, flee from their terrible mental institution, unable to bear the abuse any longer. Soon after Lynnie gives birth on the farm where Martha, a retired school teacher, has given them refuge, the authorities find them. Homan escapes, but Lynnie is recaptured. For the next forty years, Lynnie, Homan, Martha and the baby Julia lead very separate lives.

The Cupertino Library Adult Book Discussion Group meets on the third Thursday evening each month in the Library Story Room at 7 pm.  Adults of all ages are welcome. The October selection will be Defending Jacob by William Landay. All meetings are sponsored by the Friends of the Cupertino Library.
