This month's featured title: Plainsong, by Kent Haruf

In Holt Colorado, where the story takes place, all the main characters are dealing with  the desertion or loss of someone they trusted. Tom Guthrie, the overwhelmed and suddenly single father of young twin sons, Ike and Bobby, is often forced to leave them on their own as he struggles with his wife’s departure along with the burdens of his job at the local high school.  Adding to his tension is his trying to prevent a troubled boy   from violence.  His friend and teacher colleague, Maggie Jones  is trying to help the pregnant student, Victoria Robideaux, after her mother throws her out of their family home. Maggie finds Victoria an unlikely haven with two elderly rancher brothers near town. This unlikely household gives  Victoria the first true and loving home and family she’s ever known.

The Cupertino Library Adult  Book Discussion Group meets on the third Thursday evening of each month in the Library Story Room at 7:00 pm.  All meetings are sponsored by the Friends of the Cupertino Library. Adults of all ages are welcome.
