Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

On Thursday June 20 at 7 pm, the Cupertino Library Adult Book Discussion Group will talk about Jamie Ford’s novel Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. The discovery of a box of artifacts left behind in a Seattle hotel basement by a Japanese American family reminds the newly widowed Henry Lee of his WWII boyhood.  Forced by his father to wear a button stating “I am Chinese” after Pearl Harbor, Henry also had to hide his love for his schoolmate, Keiko Okabe, from his disapproving parents. Memories of the old coldness between himself and his father spur Henry to try to improve his bond with his own son in the present.

The Adult Book Discussion Group meets on the third Thursday of each month in the Library Story Room. Adults of all ages are welcome.  All meetings are sponsored by the Friends of the Cupertino Library.

In July, the selected title will be Tracy Chevalier’s novel Girl with a Pearl Earring.
