Silicon Valley Reads Author Press Conference for Teens

Posted on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 by Cupertino_Library

Silicon Valley Reads for Teens kicked off with the 1st Annual SVR Author Press Conference. Since 2002, the Silicon Valley Reads program has encouraged EVERYONE in Santa Clara County to read the same book, at the same time, and talk about it.

Now, for the first time, high school newspaper reporters and journalism departments gathered together to interview SVR 2013 authors, Brian Castner (The Long Walk) and Sue Diaz (Minefields of the Heart). Student reporters interviewed the authors by asking a variety of questions ranging from “what was your inspiration for writing the book?” to “how did it feel to have their book be selected as part of Silicon Valley Reads 2013?” The authors passed on words of advice for young journalists and writers, with Brian Castner stressing the point, “You have to persistent. Never give up on your goals no matter how many rejections you come across.”
