Have a Healthy Halloween

Halloween candyIf you’re like me, the temptation to eat (and eat and eat and eat!) Halloween candy every year is nearly impossible to resist. Something about the wrapper on those little bite-sized candies crinkling open is addicting. Unfortunately, snacking on treats like mini-Butterfingers and Snickers is a good way to up your daily food intake by several hundred calories (at least!)

So how can we all avoid the temptation this time of year brings while still enjoying the holiday? Registered dietitian Tiffani Bachus offers tips in this article to stay healthy on Halloween. Some of my favorites include not purchasing your favorite candy to handout to trick-or-treaters, giving away stickers or small toys instead of candy, and feeding your family a healthy meal before trick-or-treating so they won’t be hungry when they’re “on the job.” Health magazine also offers a list of eight fall treats under eighty calories to satisfy those sweet cravings sensibly.
