We all want our kids to be lifelong healthy eaters, right? Well what better way to introduce them to local, fresh foods and give them a taste of all the delicious produce we grow in the valley than by making a family trip to the Farmers’ Market? The California Farmers’ Markets Association has a list of all the markets in the area, as well as their hours of operation.
Not sure what to buy when you get there? Check out the new book At the Farmers’ Market With Kids by San Francisco based authors Leslie Jonath and Ethel Brennan. This charming and beautifully photographed guide is organized by seas on and provides fun, delicious recipes based on produce available at the farmers’ market throughout the year. All the recipes are kid-friendly in the sense that kids will enjoy both creating and eating each dish! Some of the stand-outs include “Cherry Turnovers,” “Summer Corn Pudding,” “Cinnamon-Nut Swirl Monkey Bread” and “Candied Citrus Curls.” The authors also offer tips for cooking with kids!
