Benjamin Graham was the first champion of value investing. His works Security Analysis and The Intelligent Investor have influenced generations of investors including the legendary Warren Buffet. Both books were written over 50 years ago, but their message remains relevant today.
Essentially, Security Analysis was written as a textbook, while The Intelligent Investor was written for non-professional investors. Both books advocate and explain the rationale of value investing, and also include commentary from famous 21st century business persons and investors. Of the two, the Intelligent Investor is the most popular and is best known for Graham’s use of the character Mr. Market to describe financial market fluctuations, which makes it a great book for anyone considering a value investing investment philosophy.
