Chickens and the Summer Lazy Bones

Posted on Monday, July 1, 2013 by LaurenJoan

Ahh, lazy bones, sleeping in the sun...

From the shade of the orange tree, Alice and Joan B. were being a couple of lazy bones . . .

Alice: Brawk! I'd catch a tasty bug to eat if it was here in the shade with me . . .

Joanie B: Chook, chook! I'd dig for worms if there was some dirt to scratch . . .

...And so the story went, just like in the song by Hoagy Carmichael...Lazy Bones...

Lazy bones, sleepin' in the you spect to get your day's work done?
You can't get your day's work done......sleepin' in the noon day sun

three chickens

Lazy bones, layin' in the you gonna get your cornmeal made?
You can't get no cornmeal made....sleepin' in that evening shade

small child looking at a chicken

When 'taters need sprayin', I bet you keep prayin'
The bugs'll fall off of the vine

5 chicks

And when you go fishin' I bet you keep wishin'
Them fish don't grab your line

small child feeding chickens some bread

Lazy bones, loafin' all the you spect to make a dime that way?

curious chicken

You won't make no dime that way . . . . loafin' in the shade all day.

Laurenjoan sez:

What would summer be, if not a time to be lazy? Backyards, lounges, swings, iced tea, shade of any tree, your feet up, hat down over your eyes?  And don't forget -- reading some good and lazy stories:
