Alice and Joanie B. were taking a peck at each other....
Alice: I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas!
Joanie B: ¿Dónde Esta Santá Claus?!
Alice: Gayle Peevey!
Joanie B: Augie Rios!
|Gayle Peevey||Augie Rios|
Alice: A Chickens' Christmas Carol for all time is I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas. Gayla Peevey was only 10 in 1953 when she sang her hit song!
Joanie B: ¿Dónde Esta Santá Claus? is A Chickens' Christmas Carol for all time. Augie Rios was only 8 when he sang his hit song!
Alice: Gayla Peevey sang her song on the Ed Sullivan Show!
Joanie B: Augie Rios had another hit on the B side of his 45 record - "Ol' Fatso (I Don't Care Who You Are Old Fatso, Get Those Reindeer Off My Roof)." AND he appeared on American Bandstand (singing another song).
Alice: Taking advantage of the song's popularity, the Oklahoma City Zoo did a promotion with the News Paper to raise money mostly from donations sent in by children to buy "Gayla" a hippo. The campaign was a success and Matilda was delivered on Christmas Eve morning. Gayla accepted the baby hippo and then donated her to the zoo. Matilda lived in the Oklahoma City Zoo for over forty years and gave birth to many babies who were placed in other zoos around the country.
Joanie B: Augie Rios took advantage of his song's popularity to start a (short) career on Broadway in New York City, AND his song was the inspiration for a cute little singing chihuahua:
Alice: Cute chihuahua, adorable hippopotamus - awwkk ! - and what about Jingle Bells the Singing Dogs? Or Alvin and the Chipmunks Christmas Don't Be Late???
Joanie B: Craaawwistmas A Chickens' Christmas Carol may have to be The Chickens' Christmas Carols ...!!
Laurenjoan: I agree completely! We have a decidedly wonderful collections of Novelty Christmas Songs available through SCCL's online music source Freegal AND, of course, on CD, like this one:
Laurenjoan: In the meantime, here are The Chickens' Christmas Carols for all to see and sing along with:
Alice, Joanie B. and Laurenjoan: Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyful Kwanzaa, Happy Hippo Holidays to all you Chickens out there!
