Every year, January 1st entices people to set new goals and make resolutions. Improved fitness, better health, managing finances, or finding your inner "Zen" are some of the more common aspirations.
There are a ton of websites and some fantastic books to help you meet your goals. We've highlighted five websites to help get you motivated and working towards achieving those resolutions. We've also put together some booklists with suggestions from our libraries that might help you get on track and stay there.
TED is devoted to "ideas worth spreading." You'll find videos of lectures and speeches from a broad range of inspiring speakers; blog posts and streaming feeds from the annual TED conference on topics including science, business, the arts, and technology.
If your motivation for 2014 is to get healthy then this website is for you. The site features articles and information on diet, exercise, medical conditions and mental well-being. There are also handy links and tools where you can check symptoms, count calories, use a meal planner, find an expert for advice or look up prescription information.
Managing finances tends to top a lot of New Years resolutions. Mint puts all your financial information in one place. There are tools to help with setting a budget,. retirement planning or even to remind you to pay the bill,. A mobile app helps those who want their information on the go.
The ultimate DIY site. Instructables features user created and uploaded instructions for thousands of different projects. Instructions feature lots of pictures and step-by-step explanations. Great when you need help with that special project or craft and also fun to use to get some inspiration.
While learning new words is not likely to be at the top of anyone's goals there's something to be said to giving yourself a challenge throughout the year. Why not make that challenge increasing your vocabulary? There are a ton of websites out there that will send you a new word each day, you can sign up to an email subscription list or visit the Merriam Webster site to get your daily dose.
